The U.S. Justice Department uncovered instances where North Korean nationals employed fake identities supported by AI to secure remote jobs. These operations are instrumental in funneling money to North Korea’s Ministry of Defense and its nuclear missile program.

Moczadlo noted that the pattern observed with Vidoc’s fake job seekers bore similarities to these larger fraudulent networks. As a response, Vidoc has refined its hiring process, opting for in-person interviews to ensure authenticity.

In light of these developments, Vidoc Security has crafted a guide to assist HR professionals in identifying potentially deceitful applicants. Here are some suggested practices:

  • Examine LinkedIn profiles more closely by verifying the creation date of profiles and assessing their connections to confirm authenticity.
