National Catholic Education Association 2025 Convention to Proceed Amid Pope Francis’ Passing

The National Catholic Education Association (NCEA) 2025 Convention is set to proceed at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando from April 22-24, despite the recent passing of Pope Francis on Easter Monday. This significant event will bring together more than 3,200 attendees, including teachers and school administrators, marking one of the nation’s largest gatherings dedicated to private education.

As the Church mourns Pope Francis, the convention will serve as a moment of reflection and celebration of his legacy. “As we pray for his eternal rest, we also pray in this Jubilee of Hope that Catholic school educators will embrace Pope Francis’ call to be pilgrims of hope, bringing Christ’s joy and peace to the world,” stated NCEA President and CEO, Steven Cheeseman.

Focus on Faith-Based Education

The convention aims to address various aspects of Catholic education, with a particular emphasis on developing a faith-based approach to artificial intelligence (AI). Topics to be covered include promoting student success, mental health, and the integration of students with disabilities.

According to NCEA spokesperson BeeJae Visitacion, who is also the Director of Communications, the conference will tackle AI from a faith-based perspective. “Keynotes and breakout sessions on AI will address its ethical considerations in a faith-based context,” Visitacion noted.

Building Policies Around AI

In light of AI’s growing impact, conference discussions will explore how these technologies can support rather than replace educational vocations. Keynotes by author and educator Dan Fitzpatrick and Holy Cross priest Father Nate Wills will highlight the ethical dimensions of AI within the Catholic educational framework. “These conversations will ensure that participants walk away with a clear, mission-centered framework for navigating this fast-moving field,” Visitacion assured.

The rise in school choice programs will also feature prominently, particularly in terms of how they affect Catholic schools. “Dedicated sessions will explore how school choice is shaping enrollment trends, funding models, and family engagement,” Visitacion added.

Experts from dioceses with successful school choice programs are set to share insights on best practices, illustrating how these policies help Catholic schools flourish. Overall, the convention aims to “engage, empower, and inspire everyone who serves in Catholic education,” according to Cheeseman.

Looking Ahead

Cheeseman expressed his eagerness to welcome attendees for a national gathering that encapsulates a collective mission of faith, knowledge, and service. Future NCEA conventions are planned for Minneapolis in 2026 and Indianapolis in 2027, providing ongoing opportunities to advance Catholic education.
